How to Make a GIF from Images — Free & No Watermark
Animated GIFs are perfect for quick visual demos, reaction images, and social media content. Here's how to create one from a series of images — free, no watermark, no software install.
What You Need
- 2 or more image files (PNG, JPEG, WebP, or BMP).
- Images in the order you want them to appear in the animation.
- A frame delay in mind (how long each image shows).
Create a GIF in 4 Steps
Using SnapSum GIF Maker:
- Upload images — Drag and drop or click to browse. Add 2 or more.
- Reorder frames — Hover over thumbnails and use the ◀ ▶ arrows to rearrange.
- Set speed — Adjust the frame delay slider (50ms–2000ms). 200ms = 5 FPS, 500ms = 2 FPS.
- Generate — Click "Create GIF" and download the result.
Frame Delay Guide
- 50–100ms: Very fast. Good for smooth animations with many frames.
- 200–300ms: Moderate. The default sweet spot for most GIFs.
- 500–1000ms: Slow. For slideshows or emphasized transitions.
- 1000–2000ms: Very slow. Each frame lingers — use sparingly.
Tips for Better GIFs
- Keep images the same size — All frames are centered on the largest image dimensions. Inconsistent sizes lead to empty space.
- Resize before uploading — Large images produce huge GIFs. Use Image Resizer to scale down to 800px or less.
- Fewer frames = smaller file — A 5-frame GIF at 300ms is often better than a 20-frame GIF at 75ms.
- Compress source images — Use Image Compressor before uploading to keep the final GIF small.
Why GIFs Are Still Useful
Despite newer formats like WebP animations and MP4, GIF remains the most universally supported animation format. It works everywhere: email, Slack, Teams, forums, and every browser. No plugins, no compatibility issues.
File Size Considerations
GIFs can get large quickly because each frame is a full image (no inter-frame compression). A 10-frame GIF at 800×600 can easily be 5–15 MB. To keep size reasonable:
- Limit dimensions to 800px or less.
- Use fewer frames (5–10 is usually enough).
- Pre-compress source images before uploading.
